FAQ's from our customers

The baskets with elliptical openings are fully compatible.

The hub seat/basket seat and the inner dimensions are the same as before.

The weight and therefore the moment of inertia are lower. We recommend adjusting the converter to match the basket.

For baskets with elliptical openings, an inspection interval of 450,000 batches applies.

There is no need for full commissioning from scratch.
Only the behaviour of the motor during transition from acceleration to separation speed needs to be checked.
Any overshoot should be avoided.

The old centrifugal basket had round openings and an open area of approx. 0.4 %. The new basket with elliptical openings has an open area of approx. 0.75 %, i.e. almost twice as big.

Because of the material used, there should be no significant wall wear with either the old or the new centrifugal basket. It is designed for high wear resistance, permitting safe operation throughout its entire life cycle. Consequently there is no need to define a tolerance for a specific reduction of the wall thickness.

With the old design, individual openings were in exceptional cases rebored specifically to eliminate manufacturing flaws (e.g. minor cracks or defects in the material). This would always be done following precise calculations and careful technical consideration.
With the new design with elliptical openings, reworking by reboring is not possible. However, because of the improved manufacturing quality and the updated geometry, such flaws are not expected to occur in the new design.

The new centrifugal baskets are designed for a fatigue strength of approx. 1.5 million batches.

Comparison of inspection intervals:

  • Old design: First and second inspections after every 350,000 batches, then after every 120,000 batches
  • New design: First and second inspections after every 450,000 batches (+29 %), then after every 240,000 batches (+100 %)
