On 1 September, just a few days after the end of the summer holidays, nine young people did not return to school as usual. Instead, they started their training at BMA – the first step into their professional future.
For many years, BMA has been training school leavers to become machinists, industrial and plant mechanics, and mechatronics technicians. In addition to these apprenticeships for trade jobs, traineeships for the commercial qualification of industrial clerk are available, too.
“Once more, we will also be offering a dual vocational degree programme (leading to a BA) this year”, says Petra Meyer, Head of Human Resources at BMA. Each semester is divided into theory classes taught at the WelfenAkademie Braunschweig college of cooperative education and hands-on training modules at BMA.
With the nine new trainees, a total of 37 young people are currently receiving training at BMA. The training workshop for trade apprentices is located directly on the BMA premises, placing it right in the centre of Braunschweig.
“As one of several partner companies, we train our own and our partners’ apprentices”, explains Petra Meyer. Training lasts 3 or 3.5 years, depending on the chosen career. With our training programmes, we also hope to attract young women to technical occupations in the sugar industry.
BMA has been designing and building machinery, plants and equipment for sugar production for over 160 years, supplying customers around the globe. Given the international focus of our business activities, our second major corporate language besides German is English. Which is why all BMA trainees attend English language classes.
Over the past weeks, the new trainees have quickly settled in and explored their training environment. They are looked after by BMA’s internal youth and training representatives (JAV). Next month, the trainees will be visiting the sugar factory in nearby Uelzen, to see for themselves where BMA products are used.
